“3.6 million Filipinos pledged for climate action. 221 million social media interactions before the Paris Climate Change Conference in 2015. And, no less than the President of the Republic of the Philippines turning over these pledges to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
These were accomplishments beyond our imagination, but they were a showcase of the power of social media and of empowered young Filipinos.
That’s why we are truly grateful to the 52nd Anvil Awards for recognizing our collective effort and humble contribution to climate and disaster resilience, and environmental protection. This award is given at an opportune time when we are also rejoicing over the country’s expected ratification of the Paris Agreement.
We are also thankful to the National Youth Commission and the Climate Change Commissionfor the leadership; to climate champions Senator Loren Legarda and former Secretary Lucille Sering; to our celebrity advocates; and to our more than 23 partners from the government, civil society, academe, international organizations and media such as UNICEF Philippines, USAID Philippines BLEADERS Project and MovePH, among others.
But more than anything else, we would like to acknowledge each and every Filipino, who heeded and acted on our call for climate action. This award is dedicated to all of you, our climate warriors. May this recognition serve as a symbolism of our greater commitment to ensuring a sustainable, healthy and resilient environment for the present and future generations.
Muli, maraming salamat at mabuhay ang Kabataang Pilipino!”
