YesPinoy held the second leg of Project 888 in Sarangani on August 8 at the Provincial Capitol Gym in Alabel, Sarangani. Project 888 aims to go to 8 provinces within 8 months to find 8 scholars while at the same time holding leadership seminars for public high school students.

Governor Steve Solon opened the event with his opening remarks to more than 1,500 public high school students from all over Sarangani. YesPinoy is thankful for the support of Governor Steve and his wife Michelle for all the help they gave us. As well as Vice Governor Jinkee Pacquiao.

Michael Fua, outgoing AIESEC Philippines President and now at the Department of Education, started off with an African love chant and inspired the young people with his message of striving and doing your best in everything.

Mark Lozano, the founder of One Million Lights Philippines, shared how he and his friends started a project at 16 years old – and now that project is bringing solar lights to areas all around the Philippines. It is changing the way people live their lives, and anyone can do it as well.

Joyce Pring, the social media maven, host, TV and radio personality, shared her life story – from growing up in Tondo, to having been given opportunities to study, taking chances and making choices. We can make a difference!

Homer Nievera, a tech entrepreneur, taught the Top Ten Hugot Lines and how we should focus of doing the right things and finishing our education.

Our Chairman Dingdong Dantes closed the event with his challenge to the youth to start NOW. Because they ARE the future already. We are grateful for this opportunity to bring YesPinoy to the province, and looking forward to more avenues to partner.

We would like to thank all the volunteers; we also had the chance to visit the BLaan living museum in Lamlifew; and the Sulong Sarangani song performed by Sara and Gani will forever be playing in our heads.
