The YesPinoy Foundation Inc. and National Youth Commission continued its call for youth’s involvement in climate action and disaster preparedness through the #NowPH Festival held on August 20, 2016 at the Philippine Normal University, Manila.
The half-day race, which is also part of the celebration of the 7th Founding Anniversary of YesPinoy, was participated in by around 300 college students representing nine schools in Metro Manila and Cavite.
Rescue Recon, a volunteer emergency response team, trained youth delegates on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), ropes course and other team building activities. On the other hand, sessions on climate leadership were presented by the organizers with the support of the United States Agency for International Development – Building Low Emission Alternatives to Develop Economic Resilience and Sustainability (B-LEADERS) Project.
The host school, Philippine Normal University, was declared as Champion and 2nd runner up, while De La Salle University-Manila was the 1st placer. Other competing schools are Far Eastern University, University of Caloocan City, Adamson University, Lyceum of the Philippines University, University of the Philippines-Manila, Ateneo De Manila University, De La Salle-College of St. Benilde and Cavite State University.
At the end of the Festival, students also pledged to be part of the #NowPH Movers to pursue the movement’s advocacy and initiatives on climate change and disaster resilience in their respective schools and organizations.
