MANILA, Philippines – The National Youth Commission, advocacy group YesPinoy Foundation, and Rappler’s civic engagement arm MovePH, are calling for volunteers to help monitor social media and coordinate response efforts in partnership with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and other government agencies.

The volunteers will be deployed to the operations center of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) to monitor social media reports and respond using the Project Agos Alert Map.

To volunteer, send an email with your name, mobile number, age and available time to move.ph@rappler.com with the subject line OCD VOLUNTEER.

Chairman of YesPinoy and Commissioner of NYC Dingdong Dantes: “Hinihikayat namin kayo na sumama at maging volunteer. Alam natin na ang mga kabataan ay tech-savvy at aktibo sa social media kaya ito ang nais natin gamitin sa pagkuha ng inpormasyon na kritikal sa panahon ng kalamidad.

This is an opportunity for everyone to come together and be part of the solution, especially the youth. Let us not allow our brothers and sisters to be victims once again. People power in social media action!

Project Agos is Rappler’s online crowdsourcing platform that delivers fast and critical disaster information to the public. The Agos Alert Map also lets the public and the government coordinate in real time.

The National Youth Commission, YesPinoy, OCD and DILG are partners of Project Agos.
